Gabi Pooladian-Ehrhardt: "Added value by means of preparing a diploma thesis"

Intensive Course of Study Business Administration
Reconciling Theory and Reality

To Gabi Pooladian-Ehrhardt (35) linking theory to reality while studying for a certificate in economic science represented the greatest added value of the Intensive Course of Study in Business Administration. It was an exciting combination of having a professional career and studying which culminated in a diploma thesis on enhanced customer orientation and satisfaction. It was a fine balancing act which she mastered by preparing a 75-page thesis on the introduction of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) at Swisscom Fixnet AG (plc), a provider of landline telephony.

Refreshing One's Basic Knowledge of Business Administration Gained in the First Degree
The twelve-month Intensive Course of Study was not the first time she got in touch with the subject matter of Business Administration. While doing a degree in Administrative Science at the University of Konstanz she became familiar with the basics of Business Administration and Economic Science during her classes in Information Management and International relations. "I had already been instructed in matters revolving around the economy for one or two terms," Gabi Pooladian-Ehrhardt explained. In addition to taking the compulsory basic courses in Business Administration and Economic Science she had also attended advanced courses in Management. "I have now deepened my basic knowledge of these subjects."

Integrating One's Professional Career and Studies without problem
The German living in Bern wanted to refresh her basic skills with this Intensive Course of Study. "I didn't want to stop moving ahead", she explained her motivation. After spending years working as a management consultant for IDS Scheer AG (plc) and free-lance she has been project manager for Swiss market leader in Telecommunication Swisscom Fixnet AG (plc) since 2003. She delved into the theory studying from home at flexible hours in parallel to doing her job. "I had bo difficulty whatsoever integrating my study course into my working life although I spent a lot of time travelling for business."

The Enjoyment of Studying Course Documents
To Gabi Pooladian-Ehrhardt the most exciting subjects were "Strategic Management and Marketing". Scientific work took up a lot of the study time. The diploma thesis was most relevant to practical work. She spent three months intensively dealing with the Leadership and Organisational Principle CRM which is integrated throughout companies. Customer Relationship Management comprises the systematic capturing and exploitation of customer potentials. Customer approach and customer loyalty are of increasing significance. This is the reason why all customer data and transactions are saved in data bases. The superordinate objective here is to build up, develop and maintain long-lasting profitable customer relations. She was able to get to the bottom of the issues of what the current topics of discussion was and what was available on the market thus acquiring the necessary background knowledge for her job. "I enjoyed working through the five-page reading list."

Like A Pice of a Jigsaw Making up the Bigger Picture
To Gabi Pooladian-Ehrhardt this course of further education meant an important step towards gaining personal qualifications. "With a view to handing in further applications in the future I added a further piece to the jigsaw which would make up a comprehensive overall picture."
